Lincoln became an incorporated village in 1869. The first settler was Wily Vincent who opened a noted tavern on the old stage route. In 1889 the town had 2 general stores, hardware stores, saddlers, drug store, furniture store, merchant mill, hotel and livery, blacksmiths and a wagon-shop.
Benton County itself is an inland-border county. Inland, in that it is 3

Osage River divides it in twain. North of the river lies land in prairie stretches or long sloping hills; south of the river in precipitous bluffs, timber covered hills and mountain woods.
Benton County was created in 1835 with its original boundary lines taking in 24 square miles of what is now Pettis County. It was settled mainly by emigrants from Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee.
Lincoln's City Park has two ball diamonds, a tennis court, a sand volleyball court, a shelter house, a small train for children to ride as well as other play items for children. The park also has hookups for overnight camping.

Truman Dam separates 2 great bodies of water. The 56,000-acre Lake of the Ozarks has so many "arms" and "fingers" that it is often referred to as the "Magic Dragon." It is 94 miles long from the Bagnell Dam to Truman Dam. Truman Dam, built by the Corps of Engineers, was built for the purpose of flood control; however, sports enthusiasts will tell
you that it's great for swimming, boating, water-skiing, sailing and camping. It also offers outstanding fishing for bass, walleye, catfish, crappie, bluegill and other fish. Numerous fishing tournaments are held on both lakes. The spoonbill, a prehistoric-looking fish, has its own special season in the spring from March 15 to April 30.
Hunting is also extremely popular in our area. White-tailed deer, wild turkeys, ducks, quail and small game populate the area. Truman Lake is a Corps lake and has some 110,000 acres of great habitat surrounding the lake.
If you'd rather go golfing, our area also offers challenging greens that can be found in Warsaw, Clinton, Sedalia and other local towns.
